Mowing is a never-ending task for the Engineering and Public Works crews. Keeping the grass mowed isn’t just a beautification issue; we also mow to maintain sight distance around curves and intersections. In most cases, Knox County strives for drivers to see 10 times the speed limit in feet (i.e. if the speed limit is 35 MPH, the sight distance would be at least 350 ft). Grass is one of our most persistent obstructions. Our crews spend at least nine months of the year mowing.

We are also making headway on our paving schedule. Nubbins Ridge and Sanford Day were completed last week and are waiting to be striped.

Our paving crew fixed a jaw-clenching dip on Everett Road. This was a quick fix with a bit of asphalt, and is just waiting to be striped.

While on Everett Road, our paving crew put a new apron in at the entrance of Hunter’s Hollow Way. This entrance was originally gravel, but the gravel kept clogging the pipes below. We expect this new, paved apron to fully take care of the issue.
