Abracadabra! Several Knox County Library locations will be hosting special outdoor magic shows this summer featuring magician Michael Messing. Join the fun this Saturday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at Carter Branch Library.

Wednesday, July 21

Today’s Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. is at West Hills Park, 7624 Sheffield Drive. These free events run through the end of July and include family activities geared toward children age 2-10 every Wednesday at a different park each week. There will be crafts, games and more. For more info go here or call 865-215-4311. The last Kid A’ Riffic Fun in the Park is next Wednesday, July 28 at World’s Fair Park.

Thursday, July 22

Nature Nuggets: Water Ways, 10 a.m. at Ijams Nature Center. Cost is $6. Beat the heat by exploring how water works at one of Ijams’ Creeks. Create boats, build dams, and discover aquatic creatures together. Children 2-4. For more info or to register go here or call 865-577-4717, ext. 127.

Friday, July 23

It’s Fourth Friday this week, so that means it’s Family Free Night at Muse Knoxville from 5-8 p.m. Muse Knoxville at Chilhowee Park is open free to the public. Spots are limited, so reserve your spot online here. Walk-ups are taken on a first come, first served basis.

The following rules are in place and apply to everyone in attendance:

  • Masks are required for everyone ages 5 and up. No exceptions.
  • No more than 3 children per adult may be admitted.
  • Stay in close proximity to your children at all times.
  • Shoes are required at all times.
  • Please be respectful of Museum exhibits, staff and guests.
  • The Muse has a set number of guests that can be allowed into the Museum at any one time.
  • The Muse reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone that poses a threat to the well-being of Museum guests or property.

Fireside Family Nature Trivia, 6:45 p.m. at Seven Islands State Birding Park. Cost $10. Teams will compete in a game of trivia on facts about plants and animals of East Tennessee. Prizes awarded to the winning team. After enjoying the sunset, look for some of the park’s nocturnal animals. For more info or to register go here or call 715-630-6848.

Ijams Family Moth Night, 9 p.m. at Ijams Nature Center. Cost is $8. Learn how to identify common moths, how to attract them, and their evolutionary history and ecology. Bring camera and flashlight. For more info or to register go here or call 865-577-4717, ext. 127.

Monday July 26

The Knoxville Children’s Theatre will hold auditions for its upcoming production of “Disney’s The Aristocats, Kids”. KCT guest director Geoffrey Scheer will direct the production, Donya Walker will choreograph, and Deena Seals will serve as musical director. The auditions will take place from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. at KCT, 109 E. Churchwell Avenue. There are at least 17 available roles. The minimum age to audition is 8 years old, and the maximum age is 18. There are up to four roles for actors making their KCT debuts. To register for an audition, go here.
