Joe the sloth turns three

Zoo Knoxville recently celebrated the 3rd birthday of Joe Sloth. He enjoyed a special sloth cake as well as a Facebook Live party.

Joe is a Linnaeus two-toed sloth, and his species can be found in the tree canopies of Central and South America. Sloths enjoy a variety of fruits, leaves and insects in their diet and are considered to be the slowest mammals in the world.

One of Joe’s favorite things to do is sleep, and he’s really good at it, because he sleeps for about 15 hours a day. He’s saving up energy for International Sloth Day on October 20.
