It’s all things ‘ini’ for Knox Opera in April

The Knoxville Opera company is gearing up for all things Giacomo Puccini. The Italian composer’s body of work comprised just 12 operas, but it includes three of the most frequently performed to this day: “La Bohème,” “Tosca,” and “Madame Butterfly.”

Scenes from each of his operas will be performed at the Puccini Gala Concert, Friday, April 29, at the Bijou Theatre beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20-$115 (there is a discount for students. Go here for more information or to purchase tickets.

But there’s an opportunity to get a glimpse next weekend as well. Knoxville Opera will perform Puccini in the Cathedral, Sunday, April 24, from 5-6:15 p.m., as part of the concert series at Sacred Hear Cathedral on Northshore Drive. But wait! There’s more! Over the next two weeks leading up to the Gala Concert, items from Maestro Brian Salesky’s private collection of Puccini ephemera will be on display at The Emporium at 100 S. Gay Street. This unique exhibition includes music, photographs and other memorabilia. Highlights include 1st edition 19th and 20th century piano/vocal scores, librettos and photographs, some autographed by legendary opera singers. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information go here.

Last but not least, Knoxville Opera’s much beloved Rossini Festival returns to downtown on Saturday, April 30. The day of free entertainment includes:

  • Welcome Ceremonies with elected officials
