Amari Rodgers, former Knoxville Catholic High standout and the No. 2 receiver for national champion Clemson, has suffered a torn ACL in spring practice and will likely miss all or most of the 2019 season. He is expected to have surgery next week.
“God gives his toughest soldiers the toughest tasks,” Rodgers tweeted Tuesday morning. “I’ll be back better than ever, believe that.”
The son of University of Tennessee assistant football coach Tee Martin started all 15 games for the Tigers last season and had 55 receptions for 575 yards and four touchdowns. He returned 39 punts for 299 yards and one score. His long run was 62 yards.

Nick Senzel, former Farragut High and UT baseball star, the No. 1 prospect of the Cincinnati Reds, will be sidelined for several weeks after spraining his right ankle in a minor-league game.
On a slide into second base, Senzel caught a spike and rolled his ankle over, said Dick Williams, the Reds’ president of baseball operations. Senzel, 23, was destined to play center field at triple-A Louisville.
With the Vols, Senzel was an all-American infielder. The Reds chose him with the second overall draft pick in 2016 and invested $6.2 million as a signing bonus.
