HVA students receive awards, recognition

High school is a decisive phase in every student’s life as it marks the transition from childhood to adulthood and can play a vital role in shaping the learners’ future and preparing them for the real world. These three scholars have recently been recognized for their hard work.

Sophomore Lauren Johnson has been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage, a four-week program that explores the unique history and culture of Tennessee through science, preservation and interpretation. Lauren had to have strong prerequisites to be selected into the program as applicants not only had to have a high GPA, but also a strong preparation and interest as well as demonstrated research and writing skills. Sophomore Kaylin Mata has been selected to attend the Governor’s School for the Humanities, a four-week summer program offering rising high school juniors and seniors an opportunity to earn three credit hours from UT Martin. The program celebrates the expression of who we are, what we believe, how we know what we know, where we’ve been as a society, and the power of originality and ideas in creating shared communities. Junior Emilina Salnicova took third place in the state Skills USA’s Architectural Design competition. SkillsUSA is a United States career and technical student organization serving more than 395,000 high school, college and middle school students enrolled in training programs in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
