History scholars excel at state competition

Five Knox County students who placed first or second in their categories at this year’s Tennessee History Day contest will represent Tennessee at National History Day competition beginning June 12, according to a release by Secretary of State Tre Hargett.

They were among 241 students who advanced from regional contests to Tennessee History Day competition.

The Knox County students honored are:

Jelena Armsworth and Lulu Schwed of Bearden Middle School; educator Mary Nipper.

Elizabeth Suters of L&N STEM Academy; educator Derek Griffin.

Izabella Maestroiani and Annie Hodge of West High School; educator Lindsey Parks.

Nicholas Burke of Bearden Middle School; educator: Mary Nipper.

Clara Suters, Ella Brush, Kennedy Bresler and Jessica Myers of L&N STEM Academy; educator Derek Griffin.

Ingrid Hernandez, Josh Martinez, Katie Harper and Lizzie Borrego of L&N STEM Academy; educator Karen Stanish.
