Looking for something fun to do right here in Halls Crossroads? Several local business leaders have come together with Knox County Parks and Recreation to offer you dinner and a movie for the whole family, all for free.

The coalition is called Halls Proud and will present the movie “Wonder” Saturday, July 21, at Clayton Park, with the event starting at 8 p.m. and the movie starting at dark. Attendees will should bring blankets and chairs. The organizers hope this will be the first of many free family events at the park.

The movie, rated PG, is a heartwarming tale of a young boy with facial differences joining public school for the first time. Stars are Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson and Jacob Tremblay.

Knox TN Today took the lead on this event, drawing support from advertisers on the website under the name Halls Proud.

“Knox County Parks and Recreation sponsors free events at Concord Park and at New Harvest Park,” said Knox TN Today founder Sandra Clark. “We asked Mayor Tim Burchett for help in Halls. Parks and Recreation senior director Doug Bataille put his team to work to help us pull off a stunning premier movie night.”

Knox TN Today will pay for the movie rental and projectionist. Marco’s Pizza of Halls will donate pizza slices, and Food City of Halls will provide hot dogs, perhaps with store manager Travis Woody working the grill! Water was donated by Pioneer Heating and Air Conditioning, while Tindell’s will be popping popcorn onsite. Food and water are all free.

Other sponsors include Halls Cleaners, Halls Service Center Tire Pros, Hallsdale Powell Utility District, Red Devil CrossFit and Rural Metro Fire.

The park is located at 7347 Norris Freeway, across from Rural King.
