Knox County will host a regional rugby tournament in April at the Tennessee Rugby Park in Karns. Visit Knoxville and the Sports Commission made the announcement Thursday.

The Knoxville Men’s and Women’s Rugby Clubs will host the 2019 True South Rugby Union Championships April 13-14 at the rugby park, 8051 Oak Ridge Highway.

Rugby is a fast-growing sport, and USA Rugby, the nation’s governing body for the sport, has 700 senior club teams. Every year these clubs vie for a spot in conference playoffs to compete nationally.

The True South union is comprised of rugby teams from Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, the Florida Panhandle and western Arkansas. Competition play starts in fall, and the leading teams of each division will play here in April.

The True South divisions are D3 men’s as well as D2 women’s and men’s. The top four from each division, for a total of 12 teams, will be competing to represent the True South in conference playoffs. These matches will be free to the public. Info and updates here.
