This Memorial Day, Fountain City Park will once again host a grand event celebrating all things Fountain City. Honor Fountain City Day, sponsored by Fountain City Town Hall, is now in its 43rd year and will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, May 28.
Kelly Ellenburg, Fountain City Town Hall board chair, invited the community to attend a day filled with fun, music and ceremony. This year’s theme is “A Walk in the Park,” and Legacy Parks Foundation executive director Carol Evans will be the guest speaker.
Throughout the day, there will be free entertainment and children’s activities, including face painting, games with prizes, a bounce house, and train rides in honor of the famous Fountain City Dummy Line.
There will be food and beverages sold on site, and local craft vendors and exhibitors will be set up around the park. There will also be door prizes with tickets sold at the covered pavilion.
The live music lineup includes:
- 10 a.m., Nostalgia
- 11:15 a.m., Brandywine
- 12:30 p.m., River’s Drift
- 1:45 p.m., Tennessee Wind Symphony
A community awards ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at the gazebo, with Fountain City Town Hall presenting honors for commercial restoration, residential restoration, the Town Hall Chairman’s Award, Friend of Fountain City Award, and Fountain City Man and Woman of the Year.
At 3:30 p.m., WBIR’s John Becker will lead a Memorial Day ceremony with live music by singer Lynn Bennett in honor of veterans, fallen soldiers and active duty service members. The event will conclude with a final salute and playing of taps by the East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard.
