Dogwoods ahead

Nick Della VolpeUncategorized

Neighbors gathered Thursday at the Holston Hills home of Ed and Clairanne Hann to listen to Dogwood Arts representative Vicki Baumgartner recount the 60-plus-year history of Knoxville’s annual Dogwood Arts Festival. She shared stories about the local trail and steps neighbors need to take to prepare for the April trail tours. Holston Hills’ trail was started in 1956 or ’57 during the second year of the city’s trail celebrations.

As befitting such gatherings, members brought finger-food goodies that were, of course, quenched with suitable libations.

There may be better ways to build neighborhood pride, but on a rainy February evening, I am hard pressed to recall what they might be. Some 30 men and women enjoyed the gathering.

It’s time to tune up those rakes and shovels. There is much yard work and planting ahead.

Neighbors interested in learning more about the Holston Hills Community Club or its recently rejuvenated Garden Club group can contact them at HolstonHillsCommunityClub@gmail.com or visit the group on Facebook. Stay tuned: The Garden Club’s plant sale will take place in early May.
