Covenant Health CFO gets state award

John Geppi

John Geppi, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Covenant Health, was one of nine healthcare leaders recognized by the Tennessee Hospital Association during the organization’s 2019 annual meeting held recently in Nashville. Geppi received THA’s senior executive of distinction award for his financial leadership and expertise, along with his commitment to personal and organizational excellence.

Geppi has been CFO of Covenant Health since 2000 and has significantly contributed to the financial stability and growth of the health system. During his tenure, Covenant Health has made a cumulative community investment of more than $1.3 billion in facilities, equipment and medical/clinical technology, with additional investments currently in progress or on the horizon. Major projects have included construction of three new hospital facilities and expansions and renovations throughout the health system.

Covenant Health provided more than $4 billion in community/economic benefit from 2014 to 2018, including nearly $300 million in charity care and more than $3 billion in employees, salaries and benefits.

His financial expertise continues to provide Covenant Health with the stability and resources we need to fulfill our mission of improving the quality of life through better health in our region.”

Before joining Covenant Health, Geppi was executive VP and CFO of Memorial Healthcare System in Chattanooga, and senior VP and CFO of Northside Hospital in Atlanta. His professional experience includes financial and operational management, physician practice management, strategic financial planning, managed care, and other healthcare ventures.

Geppi serves on several statewide THA committees and on the finance committee of Captis, a supply network within Vizient, of which Covenant Health is a member. In addition to the position of secretary on the Covenant Health Board of Directors, Geppi’s board service includes several joint venture surgery centers as well as boards of numerous civic and charitable organizations. He was recognized by the Knoxville chapter of Financial Executives International as “CFO of the Year” for nonprofit organizations in 2012, the first year the award was presented.
