County crews pitch in on community projects

Engineering and Public Works participated in Ijams River Rescue in a couple of different ways this year. Our Stormwater Team hosted a site in Mascot picking up litter by the bridge. Our Solid Waste facility provided trailers for four of the River Rescue sites; they collected 4,395 pounds of trash and 23 tires.

We had our AmeriCorps team at UT Gardens handing out trees for Tennessee Tree Day. We had more than 80 people preorder 700+ trees from our site, and we even had a few extra to hand out to others at the garden.

While most signs around the county are strictly informative, we do have some special signage around the county. The Powell High School football team is the 2021 Class 5a champions, and we are happy to celebrate that achievement with them by adding a new panel to their sign.

The Village of Concord Historic District has small decorative panels adorning their street signs. There are about 10 intersections with this special panel to help identify the area as historic. We worked with the community on these signs as we turned their hand-drawn sketch into reality. The community also had to make sure they met all the criteria set by the Federal Highway Administration, and they funded the project.

Here are some photos from work this past week:
