Cindy White, a veteran middle school principal, will open the new Gibbs Middle School in August 2018. She currently serves as principal at Vine Middle School and previously was assistant principal at Karns High School (2007) and then principal of Karns Middle. She began her career with Knox County Schools in 1980 as a classroom teacher.
Cory Smith, principal at Rocky Hill Elementary School, will head the new middle school at Hardin Valley. He previously worked as K-12 principal, assistant principal, special education director and teacher in Maine.
These appointments are the first by Superintendent Bob Thomas. Both are effective July 2017 and the new middle schools will open in August 2018.
