Christian Academy of Knoxville has a long-standing tradition of phenomenal full-scale theater productions, and this spring brings one of the most-loved musicals of all time to the area – “Hello, Dolly!”

This boisterous musical comedy is based on Thornton Wilder’s play “The Matchmaker,” in which Dolly Levi is a widow and a professional meddler. She is highly skilled at, and paid for, managing other people’s lives, particularly when it comes to love and marriage. But everything changes when Levi decides the next match she needs to make is for herself!

Under the direction of Amy Brock, CAK’s high school students audition for parts and learn what it is like to be in a “Broadway-like” production. Over the course of the year, students learn about the different styles of musical theater, create sets and, of course, put in many hours of rehearsal time for the spring musical.

“I chose ‘Hello, Dolly!’ because there are so many captivating aspects to this show,” says Brock. “The kids are having a blast and rising to the occasion.”

Musical numbers you may recognize include “Put on Your Sunday Clothes,” “It Only Takes a Moment” and the title tune of “Hello, Dolly!”

Shows are at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 4-6, with a matinee at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. You can purchase tickets online or at the door an hour before show time. Info: Amy Brock at 865-690-4721.
