Melody Hawkins, an assistant principal at Austin-East Magnet High and former 8th grade science teacher at Vine Middle Magnet School, in November received the National University Southeast Region Teacher Award. This award recognizes educators who demonstrate high levels of inspirational teaching practices by:

  • Engaging students;
  • Building student confidence;
  • Creating an inclusive environment;
  • Motivating students to succeed; and
  • Giving students a voice.

This recognition comes with a $10,000 award, a scholarship to pursue a master’s degree at National University, and eligibility for the national Teacher Award, which comes with a $50,000 prize.
