Sunday talk shows

We watch them so you don’t have to.

  • John Becker says he never intended that the “standing round table” used so effectively a couple of weeks ago become his regular set, although he may use it from time-to-time. “It’s a long time to ask a guest to stand,” he emailed.
  • Cortney Piper does things in a big way, including starting a family. The regular panelist on This Week in Tennessee gave birth to triplets – two girls and a boy – and she’ll probably be back sooner than George Korda would like.
  • Kristin Farley came in a week late with news that Jimmy “J.J.” Jones has dropped out of the county mayor’s race. Korda says candidates Bob Thomas and Glenn Jacobs should “do a happy dance.”
  • Donald Trump’s social media is consistent with his brand, said marketing expert Rick Laney. “It’s aggressive, in-your-face and unexpected” – consistent with his “outsider” image.
  • Tim Burchett, on the other hand, uses social media effectively and stays consistent with his brand, Laney said. By tweeting selfies, Burchett lets people into his life outside of politics. He seems and is accessible.
  • Rick Laney concluded: “Anyone with a phone has an audience the size of CNN. And there’s no filter.”
