Soup, salad, dessert and community spirit will be served at Knoxville SOUP on Thursday, July 27, at the South Knoxville Community Center, 522 Maryville Pike.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the program starts at 6:30 p.m. Alan Williams of WVLT, Local 8 News, will be the moderator.

Knoxville SOUP is the name of the quarterly dinner as well as the grassroots organization that puts it on at rotating locations to help raise money for projects that will benefit the community. Neighborhood and community groups, nonprofits, businesses and individuals from anywhere in Knox County are welcome to submit their projects for consideration.

Up to four projects are chosen to be presented at each event. Attendees listen to the proposals, then dine on a meal of soup and more, discuss the projects and vote on their favorite.

The project with the most votes wins the take from the door. (A donation of $5 per person is suggested for entry.) At the most recent SOUP, Marble Springs State Historic Site won $830 for its Educational School Tour Project.

To apply for a presenting slot at SOUP, visit www.knoxvillesoup.org. Deadline is 11:59 p.m. July 20.
