Harold Knott is ready for Derby Day, right down to his equestrian-themed socks!

The Halls Crossroads Women’s League brought Churchill Downs to Halls with their annual Derby Day celebration May 6 at Beaver Brook Country Club. Women sported fancy hats and men were dashing in suits and bowties as the mint juleps flowed and everyone picked a horse to cheer to the finish line.

Gary and Marian Sullivan cut a rug with the Electric Slide. Marian won Best Dressed at the Halls Crossroads Women’s League Derby Day party.

But folks weren’t just picking their ponies. They were voting on who cut the best figure in their Kentucky Derby finery.

Winning Best Hat was Shirley Merryman, who made her own hat, and the one sported by Brenda Gaylor. Best Dressed went to Marian Sullivan and John Fugate.

Shirley Merryman and Brenda Gaylor sport Derby Day hats of Merryman’s own making. Merryman’s hat won Best Hat for the evening.

The Halls Crossroads Women’s League has a lot of fun, but members also turn their hands to service projects that make Halls Crossroads a better place, including scholarships, litter clean-ups, and a clothing closet for families in need. They have a new website, too. Find them at www.halls-crossroads-womens-league.org.
