City set to relocate some red-light cameras

Knoxville Police Department will change the location of some red-light cameras in the next month or so, according to city spokesperson Eric Vreeland. In response to our request, Vreeland said KPD currently has cameras at 21 intersections.

“A new contract was bid and awarded last year, and KPD will be deactivating cameras at some intersections and installing cameras at new locations, based on evaluation of current crash data,” Vreeland wrote.

A reader suggested if the cameras are really about safety, rather than revenue, the city should donate the fines collected to United Way.

And if you see some intersections you thought were outside the city limits, remember the wild-hare annexations of Victor Ashe.

Vreeland added: “This list is current and is published on the city’s website:”
