Longtime Halls Middle School basketball coach Bill Warren is retiring — from the hardwood.

Warren, who has been at Halls Middle for about 40 years, announced he was stepping down at the team’s end-of-season banquet.

“I thank Bill for his many years of dedicated service, and for all the great teams he fielded over the years,” said Halls Middle assistant principal and athletic director Jay Wormsley.

Warren will continue to teach seventh-grade math.

Rush Strong Middle School assistant Nathan Sherrod will succeed Warren. A Jefferson County High standout, Sherrod will also teach eighth-grade math at Halls Middle.

“Nathan has come highly recommended. We have a top-quality individual to lead the program,” Wormsley said.
