State Rep. Harry Brooks has shut down his campaign account, donating more than $66,000 to four high schools in his district. Brooks announced Wednesday that he will not seek reelection to the General Assembly.

Brooks prorated his donations based on the registered voters in each school zone. Gibbs High received $25,932; Carter High, $19,283; South-Doyle High, $10,639; and Halls High, $10,639. Each school will decide how to use its donation.

Brooks has served 16 years from District 19. Previously, he served on the Knox County Board of Education (1992-96). In Nashville, Brooks chairs the House Education Administration & Planning Committee. He and wife Mary had two sons: Ben and the late Adam Brooks.

Superintendent Bob Thomas said the schools are “grateful for this generous gift.”
