  • Knox County school board extended the International Baccalaureate Program at Bearden Middle School, but only after intense debate among members, a strong show of support by Bearden residents and a ringing endorsement from Superintendent Bob Thomas. Lynne Fugate’s motion passed 7-0-2 with Mike McMillan and Amber Rountree passing.
  • Halls Republican Club will host candidates for Circuit Court clerk 7-8 p.m. Monday, July 17, at the Boys & Girls Club of Halls-Powell, 1819 Dry Gap Pike. Come for refreshments at 6:30. Candidates are Don Ridings, Scott Smith, Charlie Susano Jr. and Tim Wheeler.
  • Candidates for City Council from District 2 will meet the public from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Deane Hill Recreation Center. Vice Mayor Duane Grieve currently holds the seat and is term-limited.
  • County Commissioners Ed Brantley and Bob Thomas will meet the public from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the new SoKno Taco, 3710 Sevierville Pike. Everyone is invited to attend. Dinner is Dutch treat.
  • Central High School Triennial Golden Grad Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Rothchild Event Center, 8807 Kingston Pike. Check in at 4 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Reservation deadline is July 15, cost is $35. Registration form and more information from courtshea@aol.com. All who graduated from Central more than 50 years ago are welcome!
